For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with stories where people retire and move on a boat. Most of these stories are about living on a sail boat on the high seas. Living so far inland it's very difficult to get experience sailing, much less learning to navigate in the ocean. One night while surfing the internet, through just such stories, I came upon a sight that gave me a new perspective. Thus was born THE ATTAINABLE DREAM.
The Sight I'm speaking of is the Sternwheel Riverboat Harbor. Living on the banks of the Ohio river all my life, I remembered the awe of seeing the Delta Queen pass by. After learning about these boats, my thoughts turned from the high seas to the inland waterways. I found there are hundreds of miles of navigable water, and it starts about a mile from my house.

Now, if I were rich, I would just go down to my local boat dealer and order up the latest model house boat. That is not an option for me, besides, it would look just like all the other ones out there. I want something more unique, something that may bring a little of the awe that I remember from seeing a sternwheeler pass by.
Now comes the problem, where do you get one of these boats? There are only about 100 in existence today, and finding one for sale is fairly rare. Especially in a size that would work for a retirement home that would have minimal hands to work her. Then comes the timing, finding one at the time the money and retirement all come together. There is another option, the one I have chosen, I'll build the boat.
